Automated Plastic Welding & 3D Printing

Welding pipe junctions, containers or fittings made of PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PVDF, PVC and PC can now be automated with ease using Leister's extruder modules. They provide new possibilities in 3D printing in large-scale dimensions up to several meters in size. The new generation of mountable extruder is designed for use with robotic arms and three-axis portals. Automated plastic welding processes are carried out precisely and quickly, while at the same time reducing personnel costs.

One-Day Plastics Welding Course

"The Course was great. Exactly what my staff and I needed to fast track our understanding of the Plastic Welding technology. I am much more comfortable with my knowledge of the process and realizing my colleague was a bit of a natural at it helps me know we will be successful. Thanks to Matt for his patience teaching us and to Anthony for arranging the course for us." -Brandon Jewitt, General Manager, On the Water Designs

The Three Essentials for Plastic Welding
Plastic welding requires three essential things: temperature, pressure, and time. Without all three plastics may be bonded but will lack the strength of a weld. When done properly, a plastic weld will be as strong as the surrounding material.

Plastics Identification Flow Chart
Knowing which type of plastic you're working with is a cornerstone of good plastic welding. By asking you to perform a few simple tests, such as a flame or burn test, the flow chart below will help you determine which type of plastic you have.

Advantages of a Screw Extruder for Extrusion Plastic Welding
Plastic extrusion welders can generally be divided into two categories: screw-based extruders and non-screw-based extruders. In both types of extruders plastic material, typically in the form of welding rod, is fed into the unit where it is melted (plasticized) and extruded out the end of the tool.

WELDPLAST vs. FUSION – What’s the difference between these Leister extrusion welders?
Leister manufactures two different series of extrusion welders: WELDPLAST and FUSION. Find out about their differences and advantages.

Finding the Correct Welding Temperature for your Plastic Welding Project
Every plastic has a set of parameters (temperature, pressure, time/speed) at which it should be welded. However, the perfect temperature for the application can vary depending on environmental conditions. If you are welding in a less than ideal environment, the only way to find the perfect welding temperature for your project is trial and error. If welding is taking place outdoors be sure to perform test welds periodically throughout the day to ensure your temperature is set correctly, as the environment can change over time.
