General Tips

12/13/2016

When installing a plug on to a power cord:
  • Screw down the wire contacts on to the bare electrical wire only and do not clamp down on the insulation of the wire.  Bad contacts cause sparking which may cause the cord to heat up and may damage equipment.

Ensure your tool is completely cooled down before shutting off:
  • Repeatedly shutting down the tool without allowing it to cool adequately may cause the element to crack; the cracking of the ceramic element may also cause the mica tube to burn or peel.

Watch for a plugged air intake:
  • A plugged air intake will cause bad welds. Regularly check that the air intake is clear. Clean it with a soft brush when needed.

If a tool's heater tube gets wet:
  • Do not turn the heat on right away the next time the tool is started as there is a risk of damage to the element and mica tube.  Run the blower or tool without heat for 10 minutes so that the moisture is safely blown off prior to slowly increasing the heat to the desired level.

TRIAC Tips

12/12/2016

Changing the element in a TRIAC.
  • See our article for more details.

Carry the TRIAC by the handle, not by the cord.
  • If the TRIAC is often carried or pulled by the cord, the cord will eventually break at the handle. If the cord breaks when the tool is hot, the element and mica tube may be damaged.

If the filter at the back of the handle is plugged, air cannot flow through the tool.
  • This may appear to be a loss of heat, but it is actually a loss of air. If the tool is operated for a long time this way, the element may burn out. Periodically check that the filter at the rear of the handle is clean, and remove any blockage with a soft brush.

VARIANT T1 Tips

12/10/2016

Machine is not running straight
  • Refer to page 35 of the operating manual and follow the directions given under "Hot-air welding machine moves away from the weld". Adjusting the fine track adjustment lever clockwise adjusts the tracking to the right, and counter-clockwise adjusts it to the left. A test weld must be completed to verify that the tracking is adjusted properly, running the machine without material will not test this properly.

UNIPLAN Tips

12/9/2016

Symptom: Bad welds or low air volume
  • Check that the air intake at the blower handle is clear of dust and debris. Clean it with a soft brush to remove any blockage.
  • Check the air slide at the air intake. Turn it clockwise for more heat or counter-clockwise for more air volume.

Wiring Instructions
Connecting a plug:
  • Connect the green wire to the ground pin
  • Connect the white wire to either remaining pin
  • Connect the black wire to the last pin

Please consider the following when making an extension cord for your UNIPLAN:
  • Use a 10 Gauge or thicker cable if you plan to make a 100 ft or longer extension cord
